We are investigating consumer complaints that Apple’s new iPhone 3GS gets hot during usage.
Users have reported that the iPhone becomes extremely hot during use particularly when multiple applications are running. Consumers have reported that the iPhone becomes too hot to hold against their face, that the iPhone case discolors - turning pink or brown – and that batteries fail prematurely due to excessive heat.
The iPhone 3GS has a significantly faster central processor than its predecessor: while the iPhone 3G ran at 400MHz, the 3GS's chip functions at about 600MHz. Also, consumers have reported that, after updating to the version 3.0 software, the 2G iPod Touch becomes hot.
